Saint-Paul-de-Vence, 7 September 2026 — The Kingdom of
Morocco participated in the Lumière
Summit, the first international summit dedicated to the future
of cinema, audiovisual media and moving image, held in Saint-Paul-de-Vence
under the co-presidency of the President of the French Republic and the
President of the Republic of Korea.
Bringing together nearly 200 public
officials, industry leaders, creators, producers, distributors, broadcasters
and representatives of emerging technologies from more than 60 countries, the Summit
opened a new space for international dialogue on the major transformations
shaping the future of the moving image.
Morocco was represented by Mr.
Abdelaziz El Bouzdaini, Secretary-General – Communications
Department at the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, and Mr. Reda Benjelloun, Director
of the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (CCM).
A key highlight of Morocco’s participation was the Kingdom of Morocco, through the Moroccan
Cinematographic Centre, joining the Lumière Alliance as a founding member.
The initiative aims to establish the world’s
first global network bringing together public institutions responsible for
cinema and audiovisual media, with the goal of strengthening
dialogue, sharing expertise, developing joint initiatives and promoting a
collective voice in response to the profound transformations affecting the
sector.
Morocco intends to make a full contribution to this dynamic, drawing on
its experience and its position as a crossroads
between Africa, the Arab world, the Mediterranean and Europe.
Through this membership, the Kingdom also reaffirms its commitment to cultural diversity, South-South cooperation
and dialogue among cultures.
The Kingdom will also participate in IRIS – the International Initiative for the
Resilience of Independent Cinemas, as well as in the Global
Partnership for Film education and Image literacy.
Through its participation in the Lumière Summit, the Kingdom of Morocco
reaffirms its determination to play an active role in shaping the cinema of
tomorrow: a more open, more diverse and more accessible cinema, built on
stronger international cooperation.
