She holds the judge and society responsible for depriving and dehumanizing Raju. The judge owns up to Raju being his son.

Vijay is an unsuccessful poet whose works are not taken seriously by publishers. He stays often out on the streets and encounters Gulab, a prostitute, enamoured of his poetry. He also encounters Meena, his ex-girlfriend from college, and finds out that she is married to Mr. Gosh, a big publisher. A dead beggar to whom Vijay gave his coat and whom he tries to save unsuccessfully from the path of a running train is mistaken for Vijay. Gulab goes to Mr. Gosh and gets his poems published, while Vijay becomes sick of all the hypocrisy in the world around him.
