International Film Festival Of Marrakech
    Editorial 2001

Morocco often took, during the past years, the initiative and sometimes the risk of openness to the outside world, giving out its label and space for great moments of contemporary history. In cultural, economic or political matters, Morocco’s itinerary is rich of references which have coined major dates and great successes, for it has drawn on legitimacy in our legacy and history, making the Moroccan difference.

This is also applied to the Cinema whose destiny has often been crossing Morocco, and also in film writing, production, scenario or in the imaginary of comedians, particularly women, whom tenderness has seldom departed from. But as far as Morocco is concerned, the Festival of Marrakech is about to put down a new page of this still going on history, whose ink will never dry. His Majesty King Mohammed VI desired that in Marrakech? this page will be written with several hands and voices.

The hands and voices of all those who made the challenge for cultural exchange, positive confrontation and mutual intellectual encounter. It is the wager taken by our Festival, for as the concern is art cinema creativeness and therefore the free expression of Thought and Art, nothing is more precious than this mixing as generous as open which Marrakech is inviting us to, in the happiness and magic of its light.
